It is not "forbidden" or "not forbidden", it is common sense.

Boinc is a free and open infrastructure for the world, anybody can use it the way he wants.

But by slicing into pieces close researchs done by a same team / people into a list of separate boinc projects, instead of creating sub-projects to a main boinc project, yes you add confusion for the regular crunchers.

And the result is less visibility for each of these projects, and less crunchers. I think you complained in the other topics to have few participants : ODLK is *already* a small and little known project, each of these strange children will be even less know...

I am expressing my personal opinion here, but as a member of the boinc community for 15 years and active member of l'Alliance Francophone team, I also have some experience and opinion about this.

Now maybe you have difficulties in your main research environment / team ("For a year now I have been persuading the administrators of the ODLK and ODLK1 BOINC projects to launch my experiment.") but you can explain them it is not good for them neither, size matters, "l'union fait la force, l'oignon fait la farce".

Bon courage !

Hi

you cannot create a new independent project each you are testing new ideas ! this is all latin square stuff, perfect, just add new sub-project / applications to your existing boinc projet.

You already manage ODLK, ODLK1 and now ODLK2 !

This is not how boinc is designed and supposed to work, you are adding confusion in the boinc world and community.

Look at LHC, PrimeGrid, etc, many boinc projects regroup similar or even different experiments in a single boinc project, because it is the same team / topic / etc (any criteria) that regroup them.

Eventually you can have a separate development project (LHC has LHCdev, Einstein has Albert, Seti has Seti dev, etc) where you will regroup development versions of all your applications, if you want to clearly separate production and developments versions. But even though, boinc allows to manager test/beta versions together with production versions : there are simple options in boinc project website template to allow user to choose to participate, or not, to test versions.
