hi, actually I reopen the server with old disk, so in this night clients can synchronized again to the server. I have some difficulty to point boot-loader to start into the new disk as the old disk is integrated and so it cannot be removed and this makes automatic configuration of the boot loader to still use the old disk. So tomorrow I will synchronized the modified files from old to new disk (incremental fast approach) and in mean time I study a manual configuration for the boot loader that I hope it fix the automatic one. thanks |

Why are ODLK and ODLK1 not just two sub-projects within a Latin Squares project? Just because there are two different applications there is no reason to have two projects -see e.g. World Community Grid, or PrimeGrid. |

Why are ODLK and ODLK1 not just two sub-projects within a Latin Squares project? I repeatedly answered this question. Please read all the messages. We have reasons for two projects! The application in the ODLK1 project is not another, it coincides with one of applications of the ODLK project (it has the same name: odlk3@ home), but it processe another area of the original data. This area in our problem is huge, it will be processed for several years. The creation of the second project has fully justified itself! I ask everyone to continue to treat ODLK and ODLK1 projects as two separate projects. These projects do not interfere with each other and, I think, do not create problems for the crunchers. Everyone is free to choose only one of these projects or none at all. My new article "SOLS and SODLS" in Russian https://yadi.sk/d/nvdI6TgBrKv72A in English https://yadi.sk/d/VeY9bx6_q6CcZg |

I will again note the complexity of our problem. In 2012-2016 years this problem was solved in the project Sat@home. 154 unique CF ODLS were found. Since March 14, 2017 this problem solve in the project Gerasim@Home. I do not have exact data on the number of solutions in this project. Since May 19, 2017 there is the ODLK project. More than 250,000 unique CF ODLS were found in this project. Since November 5, 2017, the ODLK1 project is operating. More than 30,000 unique CF ODLS have been found in this project. And all these projects together have not yet solved the problem and will solve it for a long time! The task has a lot of solutions, but this set is finite. Hi Natalia, Please read the other side of the story. There is a project that deals with Prime numbers, PrimeGrid. It has some 25 applications (for as many sub-projects -not all active at the moment, but more than still 20 are) and they are all dealing with different Prime Numbers. There is World Community Grid, that has had thirty applications aimed at healthcare research (and as many sub-projects) -some eight of which are still active. Yoyo has five active sub-projects, each addressing various different scientific problems and has had 5 more in the past. Likewise Citizen Science Grid (DNA, Wildlife and SubSetSum research), NFS (lattice sieving step in the Number Field Sieve factorization of large integers), SRBase (prime number research within the Siepinski-Riesel group) and in the past OProject (number research). People at CERN have taken your approach into setting up BOINC projects, one for each problem, in the past too, but they have combined all their applications as sub-projects into the main project (LHCatHome) and main beta project (LHCatHome-dev) now, perhaps for ease of administration. I've asked them the same question in the past as I am asking you now: Is there a need to make each part of your research into a separate project? One of the advantages of having subprojects -besides having an overview of your efforts within a project on FreeDC- is that you can have a variety of badges within one project too. |

Dirk Broer thank you for your story. I know what a multi-task BOINC project is. About achievements in the project PrimeGrid I was told by colleague Jaroslaw Wroblewski. In the project yoyo@home there is an interesting problem about the perfect cuboid, I told about the task here http://mathhelpplanet.com/viewtopic.php?f=57&t=55591 I also know about the multi-task project Gerasim@Home http://gerasim.boinc.ru/ https://ru.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gerasim@Home We have not yet a multi-tasking project. We solve one problem. In the ODLK project, we have Tasks ready to send 142792 Can you take all of these jobs into processing so that there is no job queue? Then take, please :) But we immediately give the new jobs. We have many millions of jobs! All of them can not be processed simultaneously. The same in ODLK1 project Tasks ready to send 26942 Now the jobs are few and they will soon be all processed. But we will generate several thousand more jobs. The queue is formed again! We find a way to solve this problem. What can you offer us to solve this problem? Currently, a new Application is being prepared in the ODLK project. We are planning a new Application in the ODLK1 project, if possible on the server of this project. Let me remind you that the server for the project ODLK1 was provided to us by a colleague from Italy ice00. Hi Natalia, I don't see your problem. The amount of work is not an issue. ODLK has several applications -which could all be sub-projects- and ODLK1 presently has one which, in my eyes, could be yet another sub-project in the same project. Having different sub-projects and their connected badges could help getting your project as popular as World Community Grid or Prime Grid, that handles about as much requests as your job queue is long. There is no real need for a team to start several different BOINC projects -but having two servers in different locations, one in Russia and one in Italy, could perhaps be an issue. |

I don't see your problem. Do not you see the problem? But we see the problem! ODLK1 can not be a subproject in the ODLK project, because this is not another task. This is the same task only in another data area. This increases the processing speed. On this I end the discussion on this issue. PS. How many jobs are you currently processing? 5,000? 10,000? I suggest that you take in the processing of 100,000 jobs at once. And it should be processed in the allotted time - one week. You can? Natalia, Bitcoin Utopia had only one application, but managed to have 15 sub-projects within their project as the sub-projects differed into the their purpose and the WU's were named differently so they could be recognised. You see things through a scientific mindset, I see it through a BOINC mindset. I run as many projects as I can (active on 42 projects over the last 30 days 'clanks' here), and as many sub-projects (34 over the last 30 days 'subClanks'here) Projects like PrimeGrid and World Community Grid are attractive to me because of their sub-projects and related badges, you could do the same with ODLK/Latin Squares. |

I am thinking this is much more of a language barrier than anything. It doesn't help that she keeps stating "they know" why they needed it but aren't forthcoming in the details to the volunteers on the technical reasons for it. It is possible that "they know" what the problem is but don't necessarily KNOW how to address it under one server. If it was a server capability of storing work, that would be a good answer. If it was the admin didn't have the bandwidth, that would be a good reason. Merely stating that you have reasons but not intelligently explaining them aren't really acceptable. As Dirk has explained, you CAN run the same work units under different app names if you wanted to use different data sets. That could be done under one server. UNLESS the server/network was inadequate for the amount of work being processed. Then moving to a better host should be done. Or running two projects (which would mean you are trying to utilize low resources in two places). Merely telling people that they need to throw more resources at one of your two projects does not solve the concern nor address the issue AT ALL. A better (and intelligent) answer to the real limitation of running all of the applications under one server would help your cause a great deal. |

Since you seem to have a barrier reading English although clearly can post what she has said ( copy/paste? ) mind you she has no rhyme of reason to explain more than she has and seeing as when Google is down they do not email you personally and let you know what is up... Do they? If so please contact me via this project. They actually do not tell anybody anything , not even news media outlets. These days they may release info after the issue is resolved , normally that is the model of Internet and server hosts and websites. Answering forum posts on a project takes time and she and ODLK has gone ABOVE and beyond what most projects do right out the starting gate let alone most new and non English as a first language projects. Thank you ODLK and staff , you people are fast when it comes to resolution and you are fast when it comes to implementing fixes along with , and I thank you from all of the rest of usfor taking the time to post replies and answers to your users questions. Thank you for letting us know that you understand and know what and where the problem is. You did not even have to do that. :) Simply acknowledging your users had or have concerns is more than many projects would have done and possibly taking the time to translate their language to your own , than formula an answer and again threw the translation matrix we go.. Unfortunately Rosetta Stone nor Goggle Translate have brought world peace thanks to the fact that languages do not translate directly and when you translate back and forth and then forth and back you sometimes get things that may not make sense to you. Merry X-Mas and a Happy new years to ODLK. Thank to you for taking the time away from your personal life and your friends and family and taking the time away from your holidays to post. ODLK has taken the time to translate the whole project and site to English and other languages from an originally all Russian only language project AND to please people whom are unaware how the BOINC client works , added SSL so people can login in to their project and their account information without being paranoid. How about YOU doing YOUR part if YOU are not explaining or asking your question for the project and or scientists to understand properly?? How about YOU get specific what you want to know because apparently you want to be all up in their business? Yes yes yes i know your power bill your resources , 1000000 other projects but you choose a branched project in alpha that just came out a few days ago obviously in a remote location since vps/dedicated server hosts nave cashed in on people needing space in " the cloud " Maybe help vs troll , this isn't reddit. Please do not hesitate to ask , its ok if you do not understand what a project admin or forum moderator posts because science is universal. |
